Camino de Ronda/Cami de Ronda

Eston returns to school tomorrow, so last night I asked him what he wanted to do today.
As always, he asked to go to the beach (he must be my child).
We researched a few ideas and decided to try a new beach, so I studied the map and wrote out directions last night.
We woke up to a rainy morning, so for a moment I considered canceling the beach day.
I then realized that we could have just as much fun in the rain, so we put on our rain gear and headed to the car.

Eston loves being a city kid--who knew elevators could be such fun?

This is the hallway from the elevator to the front door of our building:
We rented a tiny little Fiat Panda this time around.
The car is maxed out at about 110km (about 68 miles per hour).
The speed limit on most highways is 110, so at least I have no worries about getting a ticket for speeding!
My original plan was to take Eston to a beach called Sa Conca, which is meant to have a nice, fairly quiet beach for kids.
It is a 25-30 minute drive to the coast and the sun was shining when we arrived!
I was following the directions I had written down, but we kept running into streets with guard gates and $$$ homes.  I tried to talk my way past a gate guard or two (I am foreign!  My child needs better sand!) but they were not sympathetic to my plight.
Eston and I spent about 15 minutes trying to get around this particular neighborhood when we finally ran into a police DUI stop.
Thank goodness!
I asked for directions, but the police officer said it would be tricky for us to get around the gates.
Oh, well.
We found a parking spot nearby and saw people walking on a little trail.
There was a sign on the trail that said "Sa Conca!"
I asked Eston if he wanted to stay on the beach or go for a hike and he decided we should hike (much to my delight).
So off we went in search of Sa Conca!
Turns out we were hiking along the Camino de Ronda, a trail that was originally used by smugglers in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Spanish government eventually turned the trails into an actual hiking trail along the coast.
I believe you can walk for quite some time, though we only did a small portion of it today.

It turned out to be a spectacular day--not super warm, but very sunny and we were able to take off our jackets and enjoy the views.

I was kicking myself for not bringing Eston's bike, but now we know to bring it along for our next coastal hiking trip!
There were endless amounts of secluded sea coves and caves.
One can easily imagine how the smugglers got their goods into Catalunya!

There were also areas where you could see rocks that were fashioned into steps.
I would imagine that they would take smaller boats into coves and used these rocks as stepping stones to land.

We passed a couple of gorgeous villas...
I did not want to push Eston too much today, as I want him to enjoy hiking as much as I do.
We took time to climb rocks and trees along the path.

 Practicing his kung fu skills...
We brought along some of our homemade granola bars--always a yummy and healthy snack!
I knew we had to turn around eventually, but Eston was keen to keep walking.
I finally got him to turn around and, as expected, he was exhausted.
I ended up giving him a piggy back ride back to the car, so now I am feeling quite exhausted as well!
I am so glad we discovered this trail today and I can't wait to explore a bit more of it in the coming months!

Everyone is feeling a bit tired today, so I am doing a simple veggie soup and gnocchi dinner tonight.
We are back to the school schedule tomorrow.
It has been nice sleeping in, so tomorrow will come as a bit of a shock to our bodies!
