Anyone remember the cheesy 90's film Robin Hood: Men in Tights? Well, several large portions of the film where shot in the lovely medieval town of Peratallada, which is only 40 minutes away from our house. We dragged Rory along when we visited last Sunday.
Peratallada is beautiful and the entire village is made from ancient carved stone. The castle dates back to 1065 and the church outside the village walls was built in the 13th century. It is known as a haven for artists and one can walk around the entire village in a matter of minutes, making it the perfect place for kids to explore.
Here we are at the entrance to the village:
There is a cute little cafe in this square that makes the most delicious muffins. Well, they are really more like cupcakes, so we split just one between the four of us.
Here is the church:
It has become quite the tourist destination on weekends, especially during the summer, but we went early and left before the crowds arrived. I imagine it is a ghost town in the winter, so I plan on returning then.
